Sign up your child (ages 4–9) for USA Hockey’s “Try Hockey for Free” event and let them experience skating, gear, and all the fun—completely free!
Here’s your chance to find out — without buying all the gear first! Try Hockey for Free Days are back, and they’re literally what they sound like. Your little one gets to lace up, hit the ice, and see what all the slapshot excitement’s about — for free.
No experience needed, no equipment required. Just bring a sense of adventure (and maybe a camera, because cute kid-in-hockey-gear moments are guaranteed).
Ever Wonder If Your Kid’s the Next Gretzky?
Hosted by USA Hockey, this nationwide event happens at local ice rinks across the U.S. It’s part of their mission to introduce kids to hockey in a safe, supportive, and fun way. Coaches and volunteers help first-timers learn basic skating and stick-handling skills — no pressure, just pure fun on ice.
The best part? All equipment is provided (yes, including helmets and sticks). So even if your kid’s never seen a pair of skates, they’ll be fully set to glide, wobble, or penguin-walk their way across the rink.
Pro tip: These events often fill up fast, especially in colder states — so sign up early to snag your spot!

About USA Hockey
USA Hockey is the national governing body for ice hockey in the U.S., dedicated to growing the sport and making it accessible for everyone — especially kids trying it for the first time. They organize community-based programs, training camps, and events to build skills, teamwork, and confidence both on and off the ice.
Many rave about how patient and encouraging the coaches are — and how their kids left the rink grinning from ear to ear. Some even say it sparked a brand-new hobby that stuck long after the free day ended. So bundle up and let your mini skater try hockey for free — you might just witness the start of a new favorite sport.
