Globel Tel*Link Class Action Settlement

The Global TelLink (GTL) Class Action Settlement alleges that GTL, also known as ViaPath, charged people too much for video calls, messages, and tablet content using Inspire® Wireless Tablets. These charges were reportedly higher than what was allowed in GTL’s contract with the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation (WVDCR). The lawsuit says this violated several laws, including the Federal Telecommunications Act and West Virginia consumer protection laws.

Who Qualifies for a Payout in This Settlement?

You may qualify if you fall into one of the two groups:

  • Incarcerated Individuals:
You were in a West Virginia jail or prison between May 15, 2022, and April 30, 2023, and were charged more than:
    • $0.20 per minute for video visits
    • $0.15 per message (text, photo, or video)
    • $0.04 per minute for paid content
    • Anything for free content
  • Non-Incarcerated Individuals:
You were not incarcerated but used the ViaPath “Getting Out” app to contact someone in a West Virginia facility during that same time period and were charged more than the allowed rates above.

Is It Necessary to Provide Proof (or Proof of Purchase)?

No proof or claim form is required. GTL already gave the settlement administrator the user information. If you’re eligible, you’ll automatically receive your payment.
